Holy Diocese of Mahajanga and Northern Madagascar

We invite you to discover the work of the Orthodox Mission in the Diocese of Mahajanga and Northern Madagascar: a work of faith and love that includes building holy churches and school complexes, running the “Samaria” College and the “St Nektarios of Pentapolis” Theological Seminary, digging wells, and the “Bag of Life” outreach.

By the grace of God, we continue to bring hope, knowledge and love.

Works and needs

Every gift becomes something real: a school year for a child, a bag of food, clean water.

Sponsor a child

For €100 a year you become a child’s sponsor and cover all their school needs for the whole year, so that a child can go to school lacking nothing.

€100 a year = all of a child’s school needs

Dig a well: clean water for a village

Lack of drinking water is one of the most serious problems in the villages of Northern Madagascar. €3,000 pays for a new well, giving clean water to a school or a whole village.

This option is always open: each time the amount is reached, the Diocese digs another well wherever the need is greatest. Water is life, health and dignity.

“St Philothei of Athens” School of Pattern-Cutting and Sewing

Another project we are about to launch in the coming days is the “St Philothei of Athens” School of Pattern-Cutting and Sewing.

Our vision is to create hubs of creativity and small businesses that will strengthen household income and offer people real opportunities, useful in their daily lives.

Many people have already enrolled and, as soon as we complete the purchase of the sewing machines, the school will open its doors to welcome its first students.

We believe that learning a craft can create new opportunities, foster creative initiatives and give rise to small productive activities that support families and strengthen people’s economic independence.

Our aim is for knowledge to become creation, creation to become work, and work a real opportunity for a better life.

Only the sewing machines are missing for the school to open

Our vision is to train people who will support primary health care, especially in rural areas, where access to medical services is often limited.

Our aim is for every parish to have a nurse, with the necessary equipment, to provide first aid and basic nursing care.

A work of life and service, aimed at prevention, protecting human life and truly supporting the people of the countryside.

Building a Health Centre

A major project we plan to launch in 2027 is the creation of a Health Centre, so that the people of the region can have access to basic medical tests – blood work, microbiology and cardiology – which today are out of reach for many because of poverty.

Our aim is to offer prevention, early diagnosis and basic medical care, so that no one is deprived of health because they cannot afford to pay.

Because health is a right for all, not a privilege for the few.

“Panagia Soumela” Mission Centre: a vision for Pontic Hellenism

A great vision we hold for Pontic Hellenism is the creation of the “Panagia Soumela” Mission Centre. At its heart will stand a church housing a faithful copy of the holy icon of Panagia Soumela.

Around the church we plan to build a conference centre, a school and other supporting facilities, so that the site becomes a place of faith, learning, culture and encounter.

Our aim is to make the martyred Pontic Hellenism known beyond the borders of Greece: its history, its uprooting, its traditions, language and customs, and the richness it can bring to the culture of the region.

A vision that unites faith with historical memory and culture, keeping the Pontic heritage alive and passing it on to the next generations. Read the message.

A second “Samaria” school

Another great vision that has become reality is the “Samaria” Schools, which include a kindergarten, a primary school and a lower secondary school. It is a pioneering educational effort for the region: beyond the official state curriculum, pupils will be able to take lessons in agriculture, learning how the land is cultivated, how farm produce is grown and how to use modern farming practices.

Another school of the same name, in another town of the Diocese, so that “Samaria” can reach more children.
